Watford Black History Project

Community and Wellbeing

Watford Black History Project  aims to collect and share the history of black communities in Watford focusing on servicemen, Watford Palace Theatre, the football club and community histories.

Our aim is to better record and share the activities and experiences of
black people living in Watford in order to gain a better understanding of
their lives, achievements, struggles and celebrations and give an equal

narrative to the dominant histories from which they are often absent.

Between January and March 2021, we undertook an HLF funded project, mapping existing records of Black History in the area. We also delivered online training sessions on Heritage and Research Skills. On the right is a recording of the ‘Introduction to Heritage – Part 1’ training session, which was delivered in March 2021.
